6. LinkedIn... The Best Dating App On the Market?

Last week I attended a LinkedIn workshop, and I was the only student to attend. That situation would usually be awkward, but it was with two awesome women who had previously interviewed me before! It was great because we could be more casual while we chatted, but I also came to a huge realization. LinkedIn is like the biggest dating app of all time.

Forget love; you're searching for money, for a potential career, to change your life. You have to make yourself attractive and get those recruiters to reach out to you.

First, your profile picture. Think about it, are you going to swipe right on the person with the basic photo or the one that shows a little more personality? The holding the fish or the cropped party photo of them flashing a peace sign, it's boring and outdated. So maybe the old headshot photo of you and your blazer might be too.

The about you section. This, this is your bio. We want it short and sweet but still intriguing. Remember, we want these recruiters to want to know more! So while there is a lengthy limit, there is no need to use all of it. Think about it, are you going to read a long bio? Maybe if they're super good looking, but most likely not. Your date (interviewer) will already know everything about you; where is the fun in that? We need the conversation to keep going, so keep it brief but don't sell yourself short.

You can't get those dates (offers or interviews) if you don't connect with anyone! But you also can't expect to swipe right on everyone and get responses if you don't put in some effort. When you want to connect with someone specific, it's best to write a note introducing yourself and why you want to connect. Your quick message attached to your request adds more personalization and conversation to your connection request. There are plenty of great templates online for great ways to reach out and write a brief LinkedIn introduction message.

Switching my perspective about LinkedIn has helped a lot. I have written so many LinkedIn posts just to delete them because it's so intimidating. I'm not going to be intimidated anymore and look at it as for what it is. The platform to market and sell yourself! I hope you do, too. If you are a business student and don't have an account, make one right now!

Thank you for reading, and I hope this gave you some inspiration to spruce up your profile or share something on LinkedIn! Connect with me on LinkedIn and follow my other social media platforms Twitter and Instagram! I hope you are having a great day and if not, you have the opportunity to make it one :)
