Hello, and welcome to lex.is.success!

I've created this personal brand for a school project, but have always wanted to document and share my adventures through college with others. My brand is about self-development and personal growth. I hope my blog, Instagram, and Twitter can give you some insight, relief, motivation, or maybe a good laugh about the reality of being a first-generation Chicana college student amidst of a pandemic. I would appreciate it greatly if you could follow me on all my platforms and feel free to interact, message, and share anything you like with me. I want to use these platforms to engage with my followers, so don't be shy! If you have a question, want advice (I can try my best), or need a friend to talk to, I'm here :)

For those of you who do not know me, I'm Alexis Madrid. My friends and family call me Lex, hence my username lex.is.success. I have never responded to Alex, so I dropped the A and found the perfect social media handle. I'm in my final year of college at the University of Colorado, Denver studying Business Administration with an emphasis on Marketing. It only took transferring from two other colleges and a crazy series of fortunate events to understand what I wanted to ACTUALLY study and what career I could see myself embracing. But, I'll go into more detail about that journey in later posts.

I was born and raised here in Denver, Colorado, and while I wished I could say I love the mountains and all things there is to love about the outdoors, I am a city girl and prefer the hustle and bustle. Growing up and throughout high school, I was always the teachers' pet and a straight-A student. There was no doubt in my mind (or anyone else's) that I would be the first in my family to attend college. I am smart, but I also know how to work smarter and not harder, if you're catching my drift. I knew a business degree was for me since my first year of college and could not imagine myself in another field nearly four years later. Are you wondering if a business degree (or even a minor) is for you? Feel free to ask me about my major or want a more in-depth blog post about it!

My biggest strength is my biggest weakness. I may be too involved and juggling a lot, but I thrive being busy, although I know it can bite me in the ass later on at times. I'm taking fifteen credits, president of the National Millennial and Gen Z Community, vice president of the Sports and Entertainment Marketing Club, working part-time as the student marketing coordinator for the CU Denver Events team, and a full-time official government employee. Plus, I'm 21 and try my best to have a social life. WHEW. Now, you do not need to fill up your plate as I do but know if I can do it, you can do it too. I'm humble bragging because I want you to see everything I do and get inspired, put yourself out there, and achieve everything you want because you can!

Being at my third college institution and in my final year, I have encountered many different school experiences. Is college a scam? Yes. Yet, you can either get scammed or fully immerse yourself and take full advantage of what a higher institution can offer. My first piece of advice, if you are in college or thinking about going, you NEED to get involved. Find an on-campus job, join a club, attend workshops, or a school event; I promise you, you will meet and receive so many resourceful people and opportunities. Do not just show up to class and leave. You will play yourself and wonder why your classmates who are involved know about more resources/seem more successful than you. I hope that's why you are here and still reading! To be the best and most successful version of yourself, and I want to be a small part of that process.

If you're still reading this, thank you! I hope this serves as a sign to put yourself out there, sign up for that thing you have been thinking about, reach out to someone you look up to, or just do anything you've been too afraid to do. I'm scared to publish this blog, I'm a very private person, but if you're reading this, I DID IT :)

I will be posting weekly blogs, updating my Instagram feed and my Twitter. So, make sure to follow me on all three of my platforms. If you found this blog helpful, share it with a friend! I'm excited to share more with you all and hope you look forward to more content.

and shoutout if you caught the New Girl reference.
